Yuba Sutter Youth Choir In Concert at the Lee Burrows Theater

This summer, Yuba Sutter Arts took the first steps in the re-introduction of the Yuba Sutter Arts Choir to the community. Since early June, 30 young people from the ages of 7 to 14 have been raising their voices weekly as part of their training and preparation for a performance on Thursday July 27th under the direction of Obie Leff.

The Yuba Sutter Youth Choir is part of Yuba Sutter Arts’ Arts in Education program funded, in part, by a generous grant from the California Arts Council. Some members of the Choir performed at the annual July 4th concert in Yuba City with the Yuba Sutter Symphony Orchestra,

“Our students have been exposed to a great variety of music this summer,” said Obie. “The concert themes for the upcoming performance will be ‘Growing Together’ and ‘Beyond Broadway’ and we’ll also be presenting a medley featuring the work of pop artist, Shawn Mendes, and a few of my original songs,” he added.

“We were honored when Mr. Leff approached us with the idea of bringing back a youth choir,” said David Read, Yuba Sutter Arts Executive Director. “It has been on our bucket list for several years and all we needed was that secret ingredient, a very special and gifted Choir Director. Obie is a blessing to the community.”

Obie Leff, has taught music in the Yuba-Sutter community for more than 20 years.  Currently, he directs the music program at Twin Rivers Charter School in Yuba City, which includes classroom music for all students in grades TK-4 and Choir programs for students in grades 4-8. Alex Cesena, who recently completed a three year, international engagement with The Young Americans performance group, has been assisting Obie and will make a guest appearance during the concert.

The concert will be held at the Lee Burrows Theater at Yuba Sutter Arts, 624 E Street in Marysville on July 27th at 6:30pm. The concert is sold out.
