Speaking of hidden gems in our community, did you know that an organization exists that can help make you a better photographer? Even if you are just a casual taker of smart phone selfies, come out and learn how to get the most out of the technology you have available. And if you are an advanced user of a digital SLR camera, even better. The Hub Club has something to offer you as well.
Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture is pleased to announce that beginning on September it will host the Hub Camera Club monthly meetings in its Burrows Theater. The club includes a wide range of members across all levels of experience who come together each month to share images they create based on prompts provided to inspire the photographers.
Upcoming monthly “assignments” include:
- September: Clocks,
- November: All in a Row,
- January: Fall Colors and
- March: Guilty Pleasures.
Several Hub Club members contributed beautiful images to the “Day in the Life of Yuba-Sutter” series of books created by the South Youth County Rotary Club.
Hub Camera Club was formed in the Yuba-Sutter (Hub) area in 1959 by a group of photography enthusiasts. The club has continued to be a welcoming place for members to share their images and improve their photographic skills. It meets once a month on the second Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. from September through May and then takes a summer recess. The regular meetings are held in the Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture Lee Burrows Theatre, 630 E Street in Marysville. A December Social and May Award Social at the end of the club year are held at various locations, to be announced.
Some meetings consist of digital image evaluations where experienced photographers constructively evaluate the images. Other meetings consist of photography workshops learning new techniques.
All levels of photographers are welcome. Plan to visit a meeting. Hub Club is funded through memberships. Here are the very reasonable levels;
- $15 New Individual
- $20 New Family
- $20 Returning Individual
- $30 Returning Family
Hub Camera Club is also a 50-year member of the Photographic Society of America, which was founded in 1934, and is a “world-wide organization providing abundant resources for photographers, from the novice to the professional. PSA offers on-line learning, webinars, study groups, competitions, mentors, and consultants.”
