Call for National Artists
Deadline to Submit is April 30, 2018
Yuba Sutter Arts invites Artists to develop and submit their renderings for murals for a 48-Hour Mural Marathon Competition, June 14-16, 2018. Themes should reflect Live Oak’s natural beauty and Native American heritage, Live Oak’s early agricultural settlement and history or Live Oak’s railroad history. NOTE: All murals must incorporate the presence of an Oak Tree or Oak Trees. Finalists will be chosen by the Murals of Live Oak Committee.
This is a permanent art installation on the side of the former Sonny’s Market building at Elm Street and Broadway in the City of Live Oak, CA. The murals will become part of the larger community-wide Murals of Live Oak collection. The murals (five in total from five different artists) will face Elm Street in the heart of the Historic District in Downtown Live Oak, a busy intersection for motorists and travelers.
The five chosen competitors will have 48 hours to paint an original mural in one of five panels 10’ high and 12’ wide on the side of the designated building. The artists will compete for prize money; $2,000 to the first place winner, $1,000 to the second place winner and $750 to the third place winner. Each artist will also receive a $500 stipend to pay for paint and materials in order to complete the murals.
The winners will be selected by a separate panel of judges. Elm Street will be closed for the wrap up event and awards presentation on Saturday afternoon, June 16th from 2-6pm. This event is not just a competition, but a “show” for audiences of all ages. People will not only be allowed, but encouraged to watch the art being created right in front of their eyes.
Entries should be submitted electronically using david@yubasutterarts.org. Alternatively, it may be mailed to the attention of David Read, Yuba Sutter Arts, 624 E Street, Marysville, CA 95901.
