MGM Troupe Brings World Music Festival to Yuba-Sutter

Featuring Guitarist and Singer Michael Geiger Mackert & Friends

If you are a fan of World Music in all of its forms, you won’t want to miss the MGM Troupe at Yuba Sutter Arts featuring headliner, Michael Geiger Mackert. It’s all a part of Yuba Sutter Arts Summer Music Series. The musical odyssey will be held at The Burrows Theater at Yuba Sutter Arts in Marysville on July 21, 2017, beginning at 7:30 pm.

Michael is a guitarist and singer and specializes in Flamenco and Classical Spanish guitar, but also enjoys other international styles of music. He will perform popular selections of Bossa Nova, Latin Bolero, Scottish-Celtic and even some Folk, Country and Pop tunes.

Joining Michael for the concert and adding to the evening’s eclectic mix will be performances by special guest artists “Oasis Musical” whose members include Mario Alonso Ospina, Maria Berenice Hoyos, and Salome’ Ospina Hoyos. Each member of “Oasis Musical” is a formally trained and accomplished musician in his or her own right; Mario on tenor saxophone, Maria Berenice on cello, guitar, and vocals, and Salome’ on the piano.

Collectively, this ensemble of featured musicians for the concert is being presented as “MGM Troupe.”

The musical selections for the concert reflect a “world music” approach and will represent a wide variety from classical to pop to folk to indie rock and Celtic.

Michael grew up studying and performing the various styles of music of North America and then began experiencing and learning about the music and cultures of the British Isles, Colombia, Spain, and Portugal.

Michael said, “It is important for me to share this rich musical heritage with people of all ages and backgrounds and to show how the common bond of good music, in all its many different forms, can help bring greater understanding between people.”

“My hope and dream is that we will have audience members of all ages and walks of life that will relate to the music and then leave the concert with a song in their hearts and smiles on their faces, having been culturally enriched by a live music experience,” added Michael.
