Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture embraces the work it does to show the community the artistic output, efforts and excellence of student artists across all genres including the visual arts, digital arts, theater arts and of course music. It’s only natural that it would host a Yuba-Sutter Teen Music Showcase at its Sutter Theater Center for the Arts. Come out and celebrate five remarkable young singers who are more than ready for “prime time!”
The stars of the show are Paige Clements, Cameron Kersting, Lexy Osburn, Olivia Rhody and Macy Sbranti. Each of these top teen performers in the Yuba Sutter region were nominated for the event by a local music educator. Singing with a hot, live band, they will be covering modern pop, show tunes, classic songs from the ‘70s and R&B from the ‘60s. The back up quartet is made up of local professional musicians and music educators Jim Achilles on guitar, Obie Leff on bass, Greg Zunino on keys, and Christopher Little on drums.
Showcase performances will be on November 1st and 2nd at 7pm with a matinee performance on November 2nd at 2pm. The location is the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts, 754 Plumas Street in Yuba City. General admission is $10 and will go towards supporting local arts in education programs. Additional donations and sponsorships are welcome!
The program will include songs sung by the full ensemble along with solos by the participating artists including showtunes like I Can’t Say No from Oklahoma, Corner of the Sky from Pippin, and Found/Tonight, a mash-up of two popular musical theater tracks from Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen. Other songs will include Sing a Song by Earth, Wind, and Fire, If I Ain’t Got You by Alicia Keyes, Listen to the Music by the Doobie Brothers, Puttin’ on the Ritz by Irving Berlin and many more.
We all know that music education plays a vital role in the holistic development of students, fostering creativity, discipline, and cognitive growth. Engaging in music strengthens critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as students learn to interpret and perform complex compositions. Music provides an outlet for self-expression and improving mental health. By nurturing cultural appreciation and creativity, music education equips students with valuable skills that extend beyond the classroom, preparing them for diverse life challenges. Plan to attend this exciting program and help celebrate all that our music educators have accomplished to help showcase student achievement in music.
Also, while attending the concert, plan to visit the Art Box Gallery. See art in a variety of genres created by local artists. You will enjoy a unique art experience, and your purchases of original art will help support artists, so it is a real win-win for all involved. Plenty of free parking is available on the streets and parking lots adjacent to the Theater. For more information about this event and other upcoming YSAC 2024 programs, go to yubasutterarts.org.
