IDLE FRET began in 2010 as a covey of great local musicians gathered under the leadership of Jim Achilles to blow off some jazz steam. Jim wrote the band\’s original tunes and arranged the covers, setting the scene for each player to shine on multiple styles and instruments. What will you hear at an IDLE FRET concert? Latin, swing, standards, pop jazz, and fusion played on everything from the flute to the trombone, all the saxophones, keyboards, and the occasional EWI or electronic wind instrument. Supported by a tight rhythm section, the band has a powerful and energetic sound.
Eight musicians make up the band: Jim Achilles (Guitars, Trombone, occasional voice), David Coe (Saxes, Clarinets, EWI), Judy Coe (Flute), Carmen Aguilar (Keyboards and Keytar), Ken Horton (Drums), David Bole (Bass), Doug Joksh (Saxes) and Obie Leff (Trumpet).
“We are excited to welcome Jim Achilles and IDLE FRET into the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts for their first concert hall performance in many years and the first ever in our newest venue,” said David Read, Executive Director of Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture, the owners, and operators of STCA. “There is literally something for everyone in the group’s repertoire and the audience will love the variety performed by all the incredible local talent,” he added.
