Reel Book Society

The Reel Book Society is a book/film club where we will read a book and then watch a film adaptation of the book to discuss as a group. This will not be a traditional book club, but a more informal and engaging way to enjoy the written word and the art of film.

We will be meeting virtually via Discord. Discord is a group-chatting platform originally built for gamers, but which has since become a general use platform for all sorts of communities.

Each of us will read the book on our own and engage in text conversation via the Discord platform where there will be prompts, questions, images, videos, etc. to help get us thinking. Then in the middle of the month, we will watch the film via a livestream together as a group. About a week later, we will all meet and video chat to discuss the book and film.

When it comes to the books, I would like everyone to try to borrow a copy from the library to support the local libraries, purchase the book if they can, or if neither are possible, I will have Free PDF copies available whenever it is possible.

Once you are ready, go ahead and download the Discord app on your phone or head to discord.com on your desktop/laptop, create an account, and email shawntay@yubasutterarts.org

You will get an email with the invitation link to the discord server.
