The Super Puppies A Wellness Adventure is a play that has been adapted from Tonya’s books by MCAA students as an assignment in their drama classes under the direction of Matthew DeMeritt. The original adaptation was done last year and toured MJUSD elementary schools in the spring. Current MCAA intermediate drama students updated the script and added some elements. The students who are performing are this year’s MCAA intermediate drama students.
Children’s book author, Tonya Flores, is a long-time Yuba City resident. She is an outgoing, energetic, busy mom of two who believes in real-life superheroes! Her children’s book series features super cute puppies, Zuko and Allie Puff who deal with many timely subjects and social issues. The books are written for 3 – 10-year-olds. The fun and sometimes lofty Super Puppies book titles include several that connect with Aristotle’s virtues; Tsunami Trouble: Aristotle’s Virtues-Bravery, and Halloween Rescue: Aristotle’s Virtues-Generosity. Other timely and relevant titles include Ozone Overhaul: Aristotle’s Virtues – Truthfulness and Sea Ice and Polar Bears: Aristotle’s Virtues-Confidence that connect with environmental issues as well as virtues. And just for fun, there’s New Friends and Superpower Practice. The books are delightfully illustrated by California artists, Darren Drda and Kara Reed.
