This school year the Youth Choir will be led by Gay Galvin. Yuba Sutter Arts’ “Musician in Residence.” Gay has been singing and playing piano since she was six years old. Trained in classical and jazz styles, she has worked in big bands, musicals, jazz trios and various classical ensembles. She is an accomplished vocalist and has over 16 years of experience teaching choir, general music and band.
Gay is originally from Ohio and has a masters degree in music. She teaches piano in her studio in Maryville. She plays most musical genres and has even played in rock bands. In Ohio, she led her own jazz trio something she hopes to reestablish in this area.
“I’m proud to be following Alex Cesena who led the youth choir summer program and with whom I had the pleasure to work on ‘Twisted’ cabaret show performances in July,” said Gay. “Ensuring music education for young people is something I am passionate about and I am so glad to be able to help continue the tradition of vocal music training for young people in Yuba-Sutter,” she added.
