The Art Box Gallery Presents an Opening Reception for Artists Cathy Leather and Carolyn Sasaki

At this month’s Art Box Gallery opening reception, Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture will welcome two very special guest artists, Cathy Leather and Carolyn Sasaki. Join the fun and meet other interesting and art minded people at the Art Box Gallery in the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts’ free opening reception on Friday, November 1 from 5-7pm, 754 Plumas Street in Yuba City. Appetizers, beer, and wine will be served. Carolyn’s and Cathy’s artwork will be on display throughout the month of November.

Carolyn Sasaki began her watercolor journey more than twenty years ago creating realistic paintings. Around ten years ago, she began taking lessons from Woody Hansen, “a shape painter of expressive, abstract or non-objective art.” Through Woody’s tutelage, her artwork became looser and more abstract. Like most artists, she is constantly learning, changing and experimenting with her art. Most recently, she has discovered plein air painting, which is literally painting outdoors on location, so to speak. She is really enjoying the new challenge exploring a different approach to creating art.

Cathy Leather is a multi-faceted artist with a special emphasis on printmaking and digital arts. She earned her MFA at the Academy of Art – San Francisco and is an arts educator and a former art director in the entertainment and technology fields.  She often returns to nature, wildlife and environmentalism in her art. Cathy strives to delight and engage the viewer, communicate hope and respect, while also recognizing roadblocks to equity and justice.  She donates most of her proceeds towards supporting organizations that support arts education and the environment.

The Theater Gallery located inside the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts is also home to several Anchor Artists. See original works of art created by metal sculpture artist, Dude Green, indigenous jewelry and beadwork artist, Jesse Harris, photographer Kyoko Apperson and ceramist Drew Sallee. Your purchase of original works of art helps support the artists as well as Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture.  For additional information about this exhibition and other upcoming events, contact Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture at email@yubaustterarts.org.
