It’s that time of the month when we announce the incoming guest artists at the Art Box Art Gallery in the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts. For May, the digital art of Ash Arroyo and photography of Paul Titus will be featured. Join Ash and Paul and the resident artists for a fun evening on Friday, May 3rd from 5 – 7pm in the Art Box Gallery, 754 Plumas Street in Yuba City. The free event includes thought provoking art, interesting people, great conversation, and free appetizers and drinks. The artists will talk about their work and what inspires them to create. In addition to all the art talk, you’ll also hear Gay Galvin, noted jazz pianist and vocalist performing in the lobby on the Baby Grand.
Ash Arroyo is a queer Mexican artist living in Yuba City. Ash’s work has been featured in several art shows and they were part of an art mentorship program through Yuba City Arts & Culture. They are an anime-inspired artist that uses digital art programs, sharpies, and acrylic paint to create their art in various mediums. They are heavily influenced by Japanese comics, American cartoons, and fantasy novels.
Paul Titus’s lifelong love of photography began with the gift of a Brownie camera when he was ten. He served in the U.S. Army and Reserves for 26 years. Paul and his wife of 59 years have traveled extensively throughout the American West which is reflected in his photographs. He says, “I am what I call an environmental photographer. I want my photos to show nature as it is. In most cases, I limit my use of photo editing software to the minimum necessary for the photograph to show what I saw.”
The Art Box is located inside the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts and is also home to several Anchor Artists. See original works of art created by metal sculpture artist, Dude Green, indigenous jewelry and beadwork artist, Jesse Harris, and ceramist Drew Sallee. Your purchase of a work of original art helps support the artist as well as Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture.
