Celebrate the 7th Annual Harvest the Arts Festival

Experience the joys of locally produced foods and locally created art at the 7th annual Harvest the Arts party put on by Yuba Sutter Arts.  This year’s event will be held on Saturday, September 22nd from 6-10 pm at historic J. Heier Farms, 4880 E. Butte Road in Live Oak across from the Country Vet.   Once again, the Harvest the Artsteam is bringing together local farmers, artists, restaurants, musicians, wineries, and the entire community to help raise funds for arts programs throughout Yuba and Sutter Counties.

New this year is “Culinary Row” where local restaurants will be serving farm-to-fork items from their menus.  Hillcrest Landing, City Café and Justin’s Kitchen among others will be represented.   All three Sutter County-based wineries will be providing tastings of a variety of their wines; Cordi Winery, Munger Family Vineyard and Sicilia Vineyards.  The Tap Room from Colusa will be providing the beer.  Other local food producers will be sampling including Blue Diamond Snacks, Capital of Mars Coffee Roasters, Rockabetty’s Sweet Treats and J. Heier Farms preserves.  Competitive flair bartender, Jason Omoto, will be flying in from San Diego to mix up some specialty cocktails for guests and will add that special touch only a master of mixology can muster. And in keeping with tradition, you’ll be invited to join the celebratory “toast” as the sun sets behind the Sutter Buttes at 7:03pm.

Entertainment headliners will be ThorKat, the popular rock cover band playing hits from the 70’s through today.   Singer-songwriter, Tom Galvin will play a mix of his original music and covers of popular tunes.  Michael Geiger will perform classical, flamenco and world music from his vast repertoire and The West Grand Brass Band from Oakland will make a joyful noise guaranteed to get everyone up and moving.

Over 25 visual artists will be on hand to show off their latest work.  These include Max Komissarchik who is from St. Petersburg, Russia.  He came to America in 1989 and continues to explore a variety of art forms while assimilating to the new experience of living in America.  Lila Rivera,Yuba Sutter Arts “Visual Artist in Residence,” is a highly regarded local artist known for realistic portraits and still life paintings. Madelyne Templeton has been a key artist in the “Cover It! Utility Box Mini Murals” project and just completed painting a Honkers and a Honey Bee themed box in Yuba City.  Local photographer Stoney Meagher who was part of the Portraits of Veterans project and recently created the “Art of the Tattoo” exhibit at Yuba Sutter Arts will display some of his beautiful landscapes.

An exclusive “Art Safari” plein air painting adventure in the Buttes will be the grand prize for the raffle drawing this year. Think about a sip and sketch party on steroids.  The two winners of the drawing will each invite nine of their friends to an afternoon of artistic expression in a beautiful and otherwise not accessible corner of the Buttes. You will be chauffeured to the location and all supplies will be provided.  Fine wines and appetizers will be served while you are guided through a landscape painting project by Yuba College art professor, Rebecca Wallace. Following your painting session, a gourmet catered dinner will be served accompanied by live music.
