The Galvins and Friend In Concert
October 13 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm$8.00 – $10.00
Two Shows in One!
Yuba Sutter Arts is pleased to welcome back to its Burrows Theater stage singer/songwriters Tom and Gay Galvin along with fellow musician Steve Miller in a special one night only appearance. Tom and Gay have been performing individually and as a couple for many years. They bring a mix of folk and jazz originals in the best singer/songwriter tradition. Special guest Steve Miller will add his own sense of wonder and style of original music to the concert.
The concert will actually be two shows in one. The first show will feature songs by Tom and Gay. Both have wide-ranging experience in songwriting and performing. Tom’s songs are upbeat and funny and greatly enhanced by Gay’s masterful piano accompaniment. Gay will also perform a few of her jazzier originals. The second show will feature another local singer/songwriter, Steve Miller, who will perform a cycle of seven songs that tell a story; Steve’s “Folk Opera,” if you will. Think “Tommy” meets Tom Waits or something like that. Steve will be accompanied by Tom and Gay. With years of performance experience, Tom, Gay, and Steve are veterans who will be at the top of their game at the Burrows.
The concert will be held on Saturday, October 13 at 7pm at the Burrows Theater, 630 E Street in Marysville. General admission is $10 and admission for seniors, students and military is $8.
During the period from the ‘40s through the ‘60s, sparked by the American folk music revival, young performers became inspired by traditional folk music and began writing and performing their own original music. Well-known singer/songwriters include Neil Young, John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Willie Nelson, Paul Simon, Leonard Cohen, and Joni Mitchell and other popular musicians to the present day including Taylor Swift. It is this long legacy that inspires and informs the work of Tom, Gay and Steve.
All three musicians have both appeared on the Lee Burrows Theater stage many times with various ensembles playing a variety of styles and genres of music. Tom has written songs for touring bands from the American Midwest to the American far west. He “troubadoured” around the country for several years while also training to become a psychotherapist. Gay Galvin has been playing piano since she was six years old. Trained in classical and jazz, she has worked in big bands, musicals, jazz trios and various classical ensembles.
Come support live music in the community and enjoy these very gifted musicians. Plenty of free parking is available on the streets adjacent to the theatre and at the Umpqua Bank and Bank of America parking lots directly across the street.
