John Muir Laws, Natural Journaling at South Yuba State Park

March 18 at 9:00 am 3:00 pm

John Muir Laws, artist, and educator will teach his world-renowned Natural Journaling Course while engaging with our beloved Yuba Watershed at South Yuba River State Park (Bridgeport). Educators are highly encouraged to participate in this nature journaling session as it is an excellent strategy for classroom use. This full day outing includes a community potluck.

This community event begins with a one-and-a-half-hour online introduction to Nature Journaling from John Muir Laws on Saturday, March 4th (9am-10:30am).

Once you are registered for the event you will be sent a link for the online sessions. You should have some art supplies (paper, pencil, and colored pencils) with you when you attend this first meeting. For the final online session celebration, April 5 (6:00 pm to 7:00 pm), bring your journals to share with the group.

The hike at South Yuba River State Park will be a mix of hiking and journaling and will include several stops (20-30 minutes) for nature journaling guided by John Muir Laws.

We will plan on meeting at the Yuba Sutter Arts building at 624 E Street, Marysville, CA 95901 at 9:00 am. to check in, pass out supplies, and caravan/carpool up to the park.

Art supplies needed for the day will be provided to participants at check-in (journals, pencils, colored pencils, erasers). Water and snacks for the hike will be provided by Yuba Sutter Arts. Other materials you may need include, good hiking shoes, sunscreen, layers of clothing as the temperature will change throughout the day, and any other personal necessities for a day out on the trail. There is a small fee for parking.

Lunch will be a potluck affair held in the park. Please plan on bringing a dish of your favorite outdoor food with a serving utensil to share with the group of 25 participants.
