International Organist Kimberly Marshall to Perform in Yuba City

October 4, 2019 at 7:30 pm 9:30 pm

Yuba Sutter Arts is proud to announce the fifth in its new series of organ concerts being held in collaboration with Marian Metson and First Lutheran Church in Yuba City.  The featured organist will be internationally acclaimed organist, Kimberly Marshall.

The concert will be held on Friday, October 4th at 7:30pm. The location is First Lutheran Church, 850 Cooper Avenue in Yuba City. The concert is free, but donations will be accepted for the upkeep of the organ.

Kimberly Marshall is known worldwide for her compelling programs and presentations of organ music. She has taught at the Royal Academy of Music in London and Stanford University. Presently she is Professor at Arizona State University and the Malmö Academy of Music in Sweden.

Ms. Marshall has performed and presented her research at eleven national conventions of the American Guild of Organists and her recital tours have taken her to England, Germany, France, Sweden, the Netherlands, Austria, Bolivia and Korea. Most recently Ms. Marshall appeared at the Boston Early Music Festival, the Organ Historical Society national convention in Dallas and inaugurated the new organ in St. Petri Cathedral, Malmö, the largest instrument in Scandinavia. For the First Lutheran concert, she will be playing works by Bach, Buxtehude, Pasquini and other masters of the organ repertoire.

Marian Metson, coordinator of the concert series, was the organist at First Lutheran from 1994-2010. During her tenure at the Church, she ran a successful concert series that included top organists from around the country. As a result of a generous anonymous gift, Marian was asked by the church to reinstate the series.

“We were able to collaborate with Chico State where the organ builder had built his first instrument and attract some of the finest organists available,” said Marian. “So now we have an opportunity for our community to once again hear world class organists playing on a world class instrument right here in Yuba-Sutter,” she added.

The First Lutheran organ was built by Munetaka Yokota, who went on to build organs at universities in Sweden and in Rochester and Ithaca, New York in addition to Chico State. Yokota is revered in esoteric organ circles. For additional information, contact David Read at 530-749-8065 or david@yubasutterarts.org.
