Yuba Sutter Arts is pleased to welcome back to the Burrows Theater jazz pianist and vocalist, Gay Galvin, along with her Jazz Trio. The group includes Kit Bailey on drums, Jason Wilkins on bass and Gay on keyboard and vocals.
The concert will be held on Saturday, April 13th at The Burrows Theater at Yuba Sutter Arts, 630 E Street in Marysville. Doors open at 6:30pm and the concert starts at 7:00. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased below or at Yuba Sutter Arts’ office at 624 E Street in Marysville Wednesday through Friday from 11-4. (A $1 service fee will be added to online ticket sales.)
Gay Galvin has been playing piano since she was six years old. Trained in classical and jazz styles, she has worked in big bands, musicals, jazz trios and various classical ensembles. Married to singer/songwriter, Tom Galvin, the couple has performed at the Burrow Theaters in concert as a duo. Gay has performed in various ensembles throughout the community including concerts at Yuba College and in productions at The Acting Company. Gay and Tom also both played for the Applause performances of “Home for the Holidays” last December to help raise funds for the completion of the Sutter Theater.
Gay is originally from Ohio and has a Masters degree in piano performance in jazz. She teaches classical/Suzuki piano and jazz/improv in her studio in Marysville. She has played across most musical genres and in a variety of ensembles including some rock bands, but her heart belongs to jazz. Yuba Sutter Arts is proud to have Gay as their “Musician in Residence.”
Kit Bailey loves rhythm. He began performing in a Sacramento Scottish bagpipe band in 1966 and soon joined orchestras and wind ensembles all over California. He worked with Sarah Vaughan, Benny Goodman and Phyllis Diller. Once he discovered jazz, he devoured Caribbean and Afro-Cuban styles and instruments. Kit has recorded with many Northern California jazz bands and other ensembles since moving to Nevada County in 1988.
Jason Wilkins studied with Dr. Art Davis, Putter Smith and Darek Oles. He has performed with his own Jason Wilkins Group since 1996, the rock and roll band Three Blind Mice and has even toured with the Bently Brothers Circus. He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Contrabass from UC Irvine. Come support live music in the community and enjoy these very gifted musicians. Plenty of free parking is available on the streets adjacent to the theatre and at the Umpqua Bank and Bank of America parking lots directly across the street.
