First Annual Yuba-Sutter Zombie Walk
October 28 at 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Do you love Halloween and all the costumes and make-up but wish you could stretch the holiday out a bit? If so the please join Yuba Sutter Arts for the first annual local Zombie Walk on Sunday, October 28. It will be a great warm up for Halloween just a few days later.
A zombie walk is simply an organized public gathering of people who dress up in zombie costumes. Participants meet, fine tune their costumes and makeup and then make their way around the community in an orderly fashion. Zombie walks can be organized simply for entertainment or with a purpose, such as setting a world record or promoting a charitable cause. Originating in North America during the 2000s, zombie walks occur throughout the world.
Now you can enjoy this great addition to the Halloween season because Yuba Sutter Arts is partnering with Rockabetty’s Hair Parlor of Yuba City to put on the first local Zombie Walk. Yuba Sutter Arts will host the event at its gallery, courtyard and theater at 624/630 E Street in Marysville on October 28 from 1 – 8pm. Admission is free and open to the public. Visit vendors like 530 Rock Hunt, Sugar Sugar, Trinkets & Treasures, The Game Room by Gonder Family, Inc., Millennium Family Entertainment, Potato Potato loaded tater tots, food vendors and many more! Rockabetty’s will have booths showcasing the art of special effects zombie makeup, face painting, card reading and there will be a photo scavenger hunt during the walk! Twin Cities Dancers will also be on hand in full zombie attire and makeup and will dance to “Thriller” throughout the day.
There will be a costume and make-up contest with prizes for best dressed zombie King, Queen, Prince and Princess so come ready to win! Winners will be announced at 4:00pm. Then, the winners will lead the “zombie walk” through Marysville along D Street and finish up back at the Burrows Theater for a free screening of the George Romero classic, “Night of the Living Dead” at 6pm complete with freshly popped popcorn in the only public movie theater in Yuba County.
Here are a few tips for making this a great event. Ham it up! You’re wearing fake blood and ripped up clothes and walking around moaning in public. Doing that louder will not be any more embarrassing.
Walk like a zombie. This is not a speed-walking event. Zombies lurch, crawl, limp, slither, etc. Stay in character. Zombies don’t have conversations with their friends. They’re dead, they’re all messed up. Have fun. Come up with a theme and stay in character as much as possible. It’s a celebration of a great time of year. Moan like you mean it!
Come out for a fun, Fall, family event. For additional information, contact Abbie Cesena at 530-742-ARTS or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
