Kickoff Event for Yuba County’s Only Movie Theater
Are you a moviegoer? Do you have favorite actors or directors? Did you like Darkest Hour, Dunkirk, Lady Bird, or The Post? Then put on your fanciest red-carpet attire or just come as you are to the Burrows Theater for the christening and kickoff event of Yuba County’s only operational public movie theater. We will live-stream the awards ceremony in our theater while you sip sparkling wine or beer and nibble on delicious appetizers. The Academy Awards are turning 90 this year, and Yuba Sutter Arts is ready to celebrate in style! So show up ready for your big red carpet moment and we’ll make sure you feel like a movie star!
Popular late night host Jimmy Kimmel will again host the ceremony. Yuba Sutter Arts will air the entire Academy Awards program starting at 3:30 pm with the Oscars pre-show that features interviews with nominees, presenters and performers, and brings viewers the best behind-the-scenes moments. The awards ceremony begins at 5 pm.
Yuba Sutter Arts chose the Academy Awards ceremony as the kickoff event to highlight its new projection system in the Burrows Theater. “We’ve wanted to share some themed film series for quite a while and now have the technical ability to do so,” said David Read, Executive Director of Yuba Sutter Arts. “With all of our county’s derelict movie theaters, we have moved to fill the void to provide the public with the opportunity to come together to view and discuss the cinematic arts,” he added.
In the coming months, Yuba Sutter Arts will host an Irish Film Series, Shakespeare Film Series and a Classic Westerns Film Series. Regardless of how anyone feels about Hollywood and all of the political turmoil of the past year, the annual Academy Awards helps to shine a light on worthy major studio productions, as well as breakthrough independent films that might not be seen otherwise. These films also feature remarkable performances by actors at the top of their craft.
Come out and join Yuba Sutter Arts for what promises to be a fun evening complete with prizes for those you can guess the winners in the major categories. The cost to attend is only $10, which includes refreshments. (There is an additional charge of $1/ticket for online sales.) The screening will take place at Yuba Sutter Arts, 624 E Street in Marysville. There is plenty of free street parking and in the parking lots at Umpqua Bank and Bank of America directly adjacent to the theater.
