What comes to mind when you think about Spain? Spanish food like tapas and paella? Ernest Hemingway and the running of the bulls in Pamplona at the Festival San Fermin? Spain’s rich history and its influence in the New World? What about the music? What about the sound of not one, but two flamenco guitars as the guitarists’ fingers fly across the instrument igniting the passions of all who listen?
Now is your chance to get a flavor of that experience right here in Yuba-Sutter. Get ready for an exciting new collaboration as guitarists Adam del Monte and Mak Grgic team up for a fresh and spontaneous program, “La Buena Vida,” for a journey through Spanish and Latin American landscapes. Hear flamenco classics plus traditional Argentinian Tangos and original compositions that cast a renewed spirit into the world of the guitar.
The concert will be held on Sunday February 12th at the Burrows Theater at Yuba Sutter Arts, 630 E Street in Marysville. The concert starts at 2 pm. Duo Deloro is comprised of two guitar masters; Mak Grgic and Adam del Monte. Armed with an arsenal of “super chops,” Mak moves with ease from flamenco to pre-baroque to the classic repertoire for guitar up to the most intense modern music. A former Young Artist in Residence at The Da Camera Society of Los Angeles, Mak’s premiere at The National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC elicited the following comments from Stephen Brookes at The Washington Post: “It was a treat to hear Slovenian guitarist, Mak Grgic, in a fine performance of Renaissance and Baroque music on Sunday night at the National Gallery of Art.” His first solo recording entitled Cinema Verismo focuses on music used in cinema over the last few decades including music from films such as The Godfather, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Volver, West Side Story and Chariots of Fire.
Adam del Monte has long been known for stretching the limits of the flamenco guitar. His playing presents a modern and progressive approach to flamenco while remaining respectful to its many traditions. Del Monte has appeared at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, the Barbican Center in London, and at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow.
Adam is known for playing with blinding speed and keeping audiences enraptured with his innate sensitivity, mixing flash with temperance. Adam’s film music credits include Knight and Day with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, Mr. and Mrs. Smith with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, and Toy Story 3.
