Join us for the artists’ reception on Sunday, September 30 at 3pm as we kick off The Big Read season with readings, refreshments and a first look at this gallery show! To learn more about The Big Read, visit our Poe Page or the Yuba Sutter Reads Facebook Page.
Poe will be the author studied and celebrated during Yuba-Sutter’s second participation in The Big Read, a program of the National Endowment for the Arts. To create a visible complement to the program, the Yuba-Sutter Regional Arts Council is exhibiting visual and literary works by local artists inspired by Poe poems, short stories and themes.
Edgar Allan Poe, America’s master of mystery, the macabre and more, inspired many celebrated artists from his time and onward, including Gauguin, Redon, Manet, Matisse, Magritte, and Motherwell.
“Were I called on to define, very briefly, the term Art, I should call it ‘the reproduction of what the Senses perceive in Nature through the veil of the soul.’” – Edgar Allan Poe
